"King of Cakes"
Beads and papier mache on a metal platter
I got the idea of using beads instead of colored
sugar on a king cake, so I made a king cake out
of papier mache, painted it, then poured
gesso over it to be the icing.
I glued it to an old metal platter I found at a thrift store.
King cake, for the uninitiated is only supposed to be served
between Twelfth Night - the beginning of Carnival
season - and Fat Tuesday, which is the end of Carnival.
If your piece of cake has a tiny plastic baby in it (like those
affixed to the platter at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock)
Then you have to provide the next king cake.
