The next year, Seaside, Fla., sponsored another Chair Affair, and I submitted three proposals. They accepted two: a fully painted chair I called "Moon Over the Gulf," and a mixed media chair I named "Voodoo Lounge."
"Voodoo Lounge" was an ambitious project. It included two snakes, two life-size skulls, all carved from basswood, a voodoo vever (symbol representing a voodoo loa or god) carved and painted onto the back, a "floating heart" carved from basswood. And it had chicken bones.
    Yes, real chicken bones.
Both were purchased at auction for a total of $1,600.
